1. What the heck is a micronation?

A micronation may be informally defined as a group of people who band together to assume some of the trappings of state: political processes; legislation; official holidays, heraldry, and other symbols; ceremonies and titles; and other elements of culture. In short, a micronation is a group of people pretending to be a "real country."

  2. So are you separatists or secessionists or something like that?

No. Ariston is an opportunity to experiment with a strong monarchic government with some constitutional limitations, and to identify cultural elements that make us, well, Aristene. It could be described as an academic pursuit or even "just a hobby".

We do not advocate any sort of illegal secession from the nation-states we are citizens of.

  3. Can I become a citizen?

While Ariston does maintain this website, and Aristenes use the Internet as a means of communicating and networking with one another, we are not interested in soliciting "random people" as citizens.

People who are personally known by Aristenes may be invited to participate, and are welcome to make inquiries about citizenship through their Aristene friends. If you have friends in Ariston, feel free to ask them how you can get involved.

  4. Why "Ariston"?

"Ariston" is Greek for "the best". It is the root of the English word aristocracy.
